Do I sound excited?! Do I? Do I? Yes, that's because I am! Running is a particular passion of mine, and I have always wanted to promote running in West Africa, especially because it is not yet that popular. There are not as many races to participate in, and where there are, they don't get the publicity they deserve. Those who can afford to run and participate in races usually don't. And those who are interested and have the talent to race professionally usually cannot afford the training, the tools, the time, or the fees. But we are slowly getting there.
So I am excited to announce that in this year's Accra International Marathon (AIM) in Ghana, Eights & Weights is partnering with Fit4Life, the producers of the AIM, to sponsor two young underprivileged girls from Ghana to participate in the race. Together, we will be covering entry into the race, feeding, accommodation, and transport to Accra. I'm so glad we had the opportunity to do this!
So here is where you come in. We are currently partnering up with coaches in the area to look for great candidates who could not have been able to afford to enter, get to, and participate in the Marathon. Please spread the word and send in any candidates or contacts you may know. Please send information to editor@eightsandweights.com or contact me on Twitter or Facebook. The race is scheduled to hold on September 29th, 2013 in Accra, Ghana.
The AIM features a full marathon (42 km or 26.2 miles), half marathon (21 km or 13.1 miles) a quarter marathon (10 km or 6.5 miles), and a relay race. If you are interested in participating or promoting running, please enter! You don't have to do the full marathon.
For more information, please visit aimghana.com. If you will be at the race, look out for our runners. They will be the ones representing us in the Eights & Weights t-shirts :)
Cheers Eights & Weights!
