No Crunch December: The High Plank and the Pushup

We're still on getting those abs this December without doing those darned crunches. Let's talk about two exercises that we presume only focus on the arms, but really target the core as well.

High Plank
This is very similar to the regular elbow plank we regularly do. However, the difference is that you are on your palms rather than your elbows, like you are when you are trying to begin a regular push-up.

Now, you have to make sure you focus on keeping your back straight as you do this, so that your body is in a straight line (see photo below).

To intensify the focus on your abs, tighten your abs muscles, and bring your palms closer together. The closer your palms are, the more your core works.

Push-up
We all know the push-up. But I find that lots of people still do it wrong. And a lot of people also don't seem to think of the push-up as a core exercise, but it is.

Again, there are a few things to focus on: Keep your back straight so your lower back isn't sagging in or your butt isn't raised high. Also, try to lower your whole body down at the same time, not pelvis first or head first. Watch the video below to help you out. And remember that in all things, to keep that core working, keep your abs tight!

Cheers Eights & Weights!
